Learning about hardwood floor refinishing

Jan 9, 2025

Hardwood floors add warmth and elegance to any home, but over time, they can become scratched, dull, and worn. Refinishing your hardwood floors can restore their original beauty and extend their lifespan.

The room to be refinished will need to be completly cleared out. Remove all furniture and rugs, we recommend removing curtains and wall hangings as well.

We will sand the floors, removing the existing finish and stain, to expose the bare wood and its natural grain. This allows for scratches, dents, and other imperfections to be smoothed out.

You can then pick the stain color of your choice. We use Dural Seal products, you can prepare by previewing their stain selections and narrowing down you selection. We can mix stain colors to create custom colors as well. We will place samples of your choices on your floor so that you can see them in your house, with your lighting and next to any existing wood trim/cabinets you may have.

The floors will then be stained the color of your choice, at this time you will need to remain off of your floors untill after the final coat of polyurethane sets.

The next day, after the stain sets up, we will apply the first coat of oil based polyurethane.

The next day, after the polyurethane sets up, we will apply the final coat of polyurethane.

You will need to stay off of your floors for 12-24 hours after the final coat.
